Your Dollars At Work

Your Impact in British Columbia

A Message from Doug Nelson, President & CEO, BC Cancer Foundation

Welcome walkers!

Thank you for being a part of the Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women’s Cancers benefiting BC Cancer Foundation.

Since it began, The Weekend has funded more than $18 million for research and is now the largest breast cancer fundraiser in B.C. history.

Every year when I walk with you, I am so inspired by the many personal stories you share. Your tireless commitment to the cause strengthens my dedication to making a difference for cancer patients and their families across British Columbia.

And we are making a tangible difference. Because of your support, breast and ovarian cancer researchers in British Columbia are at the forefront of discovery. In the last 18 months alone, there have been four world-class breakthroughs in breast and ovarian cancers. All of them were published in leading international scientific journals and recognized by the international scientific community. And all of them were made possible, in part, because of philanthropic support from the BC Cancer Foundation.

And our success doesn’t end there. In a recent publication in the journal The Lancet, when compared to five other countries with similar wealth and health care structures, B.C. has the best one- and five-year survival rates for breast and ovarian cancers.

But we know there is still work to be done in order to help all women diagnosed with these cancers. And through your support of The Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women’s Cancers, you can make an even bigger difference. You can walk either in a one-day event, or experience the full 60km two-day Weekend. And you can choose to designate the dollars you raise for research into either breast or gynaecologic cancers, such as ovarian, cervical, uterine and endometrial.

Please ask your family and friends to join us by registering today at or REGISTER ONLINE.

I look forward to walking with you on August 14th and 15th.

One step at a time, we can end all women’s cancers!

Sincerely,

Douglas Nelson,
President & CEO
