"It is with pride and excitement that I look forward to participating in The Weekend to End Women's Cancer with my team. We can all make a difference. No effort is too small and no goal is too great in the challenge to make a difference. Individually, this is my own personal battle but, collectively, this is OUR war against cancer."

On October 14, 2008, my life changed forever as I was given the most devastating news of my life when diagnosed with Grade III Ductal Carcinoma in-situ, more commonly known as breast cancer. A breast cancer grade classification is given to women with a tumor from 1 to 5 cm. My tumor was almost 10 cm. After making some emotionally painful medical decisions, I underwent a bilateral mastectomy and had three lymph nodes removed. Although it was much larger than anticipated, I was fortunate that it had not spread to my lymph nodes. All in all, I have endured a few biopsies, 5 1/2 weeks of radiation therapy, scans, countless medical appointments, several surgeries and the inescapable side effects of treatment and medication.

I believe I was given a second chance after breast cancer, most especially because of the support I was afforded by the BC Cancer Agency. There is no easy way to reshape a life shaken by breast cancer but, I have embarked on a path of healing with an outlook filled with positivity.

It is with pride and excitement that I look forward to participating in The Weekend to End Women's Cancer with my team, ABREASTED DEVELOPMENT. We can all make a difference. No effort is too small and no goal is too great in the challenge to make a difference. I hope to gain a sense of accomplishment as well as to return some of the incredible support that I was given in this, my life-altering experience.

Share this incredible adventure with me! I thank you for your consideration, love and friendship. Individually, this is my own personal battle, but collectively this is OUR war against cancer.
